Meiji Period Choba Tansu (Merchant Chest) – Kiri Wood (SKU# 25S-D403)
A compact Meiji period choba tansu crafted from kiri (paulownia), featuring a clean arrangement of drawers and sliding doors for practical storage. The warm wood grain is complemented by hand-forged iron hardware, giving the piece a strong, architectural presence. Originally used in merchant settings, its proportions make it well-suited as an end table or accent piece in modern interiors. A concealed compartment is located at the lower right—behind the hinged door and beneath the bottom drawer—adding an element of traditional security design.
