This is an 2 section antique Japanese stacking chest called Kiri Kasane Tansu from the middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's). It is made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood.  Each section can be used separately for versatility or stacked together to save space and each section has carrying handles to easily move from place to place.

It has unique metalwork of Sagari Fuji, descending wisteria. That is a Kamon, family crest which was used by Fujiwara, the most powerful noble family in Kyoto during the Heian period then, many families start to used because of endless blessly bless Fujiwara family, also of course, wisteria is so beautiful. The pulls have Mokko style.

As an added bonus, there is a secret compartment behind a shorter drawer, presumably for hiding special mementos, jewelry or documents.

Originally used for kimono storage, it would make a great contemporary dresser or linen cabinet.
