Antique Japanese Porcelain Hibachi with Painted Paulownia Crest Motifs (kirimon), Taisho Era 1912-1926
A substantial blue-and-white porcelain hibachi with rounded form, broad rolled rim, and repeating decorative borders -- an elegant Taisho-era vessel with strong decorative presence.
This antique Japanese hibachi is a large ceramic fire pot of classic rounded form, dating to the Taisho era (1912-1926). It is executed in blue-and-white porcelain with small iron-red accents and a wide, smooth rim above a deep open interior. The exterior is richly painted with layered patterning: a dense allover ground, repeating stylized borders at the shoulder and lower body, and reserved white paulownia crest motifs accented with iron-red details. The generous mouth, thick rim, and deep bowl-like interior are characteristic of traditional hibachi intended to hold an internal metal or ceramic insert for charcoal use, while the painted surface gives the piece a refined decorative character even as a standalone vessel.
Today this impressive hibachi adapts beautifully as a sculptural accent in a living room, entryway, or covered garden setting. Its broad proportions and luminous blue-and-white palette make it especially effective as a planter cachepot with liner, a vessel for a branch arrangement, or a statement floor piece displayed on its own. The hand-painted ornament and substantial scale allow it to work equally well in traditional interiors and more minimal spaces seeking a single bold antique element.
