Vintage Japanese Ceramic Mizusashi Water Pot, Heisei (1990-2018) | SKU: 26J-0316
A charming Japanese ceramic mizusashi with hand-painted brown botanical decoration and a deep green glazed rim and lid.
This lidded vessel is a mizusashi, a water pot used in the Japanese tea ceremony. The form is compact and cylindrical, with a broad mouth, a fitted flat lid, and a clean glazed interior suited to holding fresh water during tea preparation. The cream-white body is decorated with freehand brown brushwork in a botanical motif, while the upper rim and lid are finished in a rich dark green glaze with natural drips that add character and depth. The underside shows an unglazed foot ring, consistent with wheel-thrown studio pottery.
Today, this vintage Japanese mizusashi makes an appealing display piece for a tea utensil collection or a thoughtful accent in a room inspired by wabi-sabi and mingei aesthetics. Its hand-painted surface, restrained palette, and practical lidded form give it a quiet presence whether displayed on open shelving, in a tea room, or alongside other Japanese ceramics.
