This wide, low vessel is a vintage Japanese kensui, the waste-water bowl used in chanoyu. Its open circular form, gently rounded walls, and stable footless base suit the practical, understated character of tea utensils. The interior is finished in a smooth warm brown tone, while the exterior is darker and patterned throughout with dense short linear markings that create a tactile, hand-worked surface.
