Vintage Japanese Vase (SKU 25D-263)

Showa-era tsubo with rich pink-to-ink glaze and signed tomobako storage box

This rounded Japanese tsubo-style vase presents a beautifully controlled gradation of glaze, moving from a soft, speckled sakura-pink shoulder through warm earthy browns into deep ink-black around the body. The glossy surface subtly reveals the potter’s throwing rings, celebrating the hand-made character of the piece while catching the light in a quiet, refined way typical of mid-Showa studio ceramics.

Accompanied by its original signed wooden tomobako storage box with bold calligraphy, this vintage Japanese vase is ideal as a standalone sculptural object or for simple ikebana arrangements. Its compact mouth and generous volume recall traditional tsubo used for storing tea or grains, reinterpreted here as a modern decorative vessel that harmonises effortlessly with both Japanese and contemporary interiors.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
