Vintage Japanese Fukagawa Seiji Arita Porcelain Vase , Showa Era (SKU 25D-408-3)

Showa-era cobalt blue porcelain flower vase with hand-painted peony and original signed tomobako box

This elegant Showa-period hanabachi (flower vase) is finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze, its rounded shoulders and narrow foot giving it a classic Japanese silhouette. Across the front blooms a large white botan (peony), softly shaded in gradations of blue to suggest petals opening in moonlight, accented with fine gold lines that pick out the veins and stamens.

The vase bears a blue underglaze maker’s mark to the base and comes housed in its original signed wooden tomobako, brushed with the title and kiln seal. Ideal as a statement piece on a tokonoma alcove or sideboard, it is equally suited to use as an ikebana vessel or as a striking standalone display of mid-20th-century Japanese porcelain craftsmanship.

  • Origin: Japan, with original signed tomobako box
  • Era: Showa period, mid-20th century
  • Material: Glazed porcelain with cobalt blue ground and gilt detailing

A refined choice for collectors of Showa-era Japanese porcelain and anyone seeking a luminous cobalt blue accent for the home.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
