Vintage Japanese Tobacco Box (Tabako-bon) with Ceramic Ash Receiver and Bamboo Container, Mid Showa, 1945-1966 | SKU: 26M-845

A richly figured wooden Japanese tobacco tray set with carry handle, fitted drawer, ceramic ash receiver, and bamboo container.

This vintage Japanese tabako-bon is a compact personal smoking set designed to keep smoking implements neatly gathered in one portable stand. The main body is crafted in a beautifully grained wood with a warm brown finish, and features a tall rectangular swing-style handle rising above the open-top box. Inside sits a removable pale green ribbed ceramic vessel, consistent with an ash receiver or small waste pot, alongside a cylindrical bamboo container for tobacco or smoking accessories. A slim drawer with a small turned pull is built into the lower front, providing storage for smaller items such as matches, papers, or pipe tools. The interior base is fitted with circular recesses that help stabilize the removable components in use.

In a modern home this striking piece works beautifully as a decorative accent as well as a conversation-starting organizer. Set on a shelf, sideboard, or coffee table, the figured wood and celadon-toned ceramic bring sculptural warmth to a Japandi or wabi-sabi interior. The drawer can hold clips, stamps, incense accessories, or other desk essentials, while the open interior can be repurposed for small objects when not displayed as a collector's piece. It also makes a distinctive gift for admirers of vintage Japanese domestic wares and smoking antiques.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
