Vintage Japanese Chashaku (Bamboo Matcha Scoop) with Fitted Case, Heisei Era 1990-2018 | SKU: 26J-0798
A named bamboo matcha scoop with fitted wooden case and calligraphic inscription -- a refined piece of Japanese tea ceremony craft.
A chashaku is a traditional Japanese tea scoop used in chado (the Way of Tea) to measure and transfer matcha powder into the tea bowl. Carved from a single piece of bamboo, the chashaku is one of the most intimate utensils in the tea ceremony -- its slender form, gently curved tip, and natural grain reflecting the wabi-sabi aesthetic at the heart of Japanese tea culture. This example is a handcrafted Japanese tea utensil of notable quality, bearing brushed ink calligraphy along the body of both the scoop and its fitted bamboo tube case, suggesting it was made or named by a practitioner or artisan associated with a tea school. The tube case is sealed with a small carved wooden plug cap, a detail consistent with named chashaku presented as collector pieces or ceremonial gifts. A sliding-lid light wood storage box and an outer paper sleeve with a calligraphic label complete the layered presentation -- the traditional Japanese approach to housing a treasured utensil.
In a modern home, this chashaku makes a quietly beautiful living room accent or meditation space display object, propped upright in its open wooden box alongside a ceramic tea bowl or small vase. Its natural bamboo tones and ink brushwork pair effortlessly with Japandi style interiors and minimalist decor. The complete set -- scoop, tube case, wood box, and paper sleeve -- makes a meaningful and unique gift for collectors of Japanese vintage craft, matcha enthusiasts, or anyone drawn to the wabi-sabi aesthetic. It would also serve as an elegant desk accent or be displayed as part of a curated tea corner in a home office or dining room.
