The lower chest section presents multiple drawers of varying sizes, each fitted with bail or ring-style metal pulls with decorative fluted rosette escutcheons. Throughout the piece, a boldly figured hardwood -- likely keyaki (zelkova) -- displays sweeping, wavy grain patterns on every exterior surface, giving the piece a visual energy rarely seen in everyday furniture.
