Vintage Japanese Hikidashi, Kabazaiku Cherry Bark Veneer, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0697-1
A compact vintage Japanese hikidashi finished in richly patterned kabazaiku cherry bark veneer, combining practical tabletop storage with the warm luster of traditional bark work.
This small Japanese hikidashi is a rectangular tabletop storage piece with two pull-out compartments, sized for keeping personal effects, stationery, sewing tools, or other small household items neatly organized. The exterior is covered in glossy cherry bark veneer with the distinctive elongated natural markings associated with kabazaiku work, giving the surface a deep amber-brown tone and lively organic texture. Darker banding frames the front edges and base, while the fronts are fitted with decorative metal bail pulls that add a subtle ornamental accent. Inside, the compartments are left in pale wood, offering a clean contrast to the polished exterior.
Its modest scale makes it easy to place on a desk, shelf, or dresser, where it can serve as a handsome organizer without taking up much space. The bark-clad surface brings natural warmth to interiors ranging from traditional Japanese-inspired rooms to quieter modern spaces. Equally useful for correspondence, accessories, craft supplies, or keepsakes, this hikidashi offers everyday function in a compact vintage form.
