Vintage Japanese Shoin Panel Set with Kumiko Lattice, Mid Showa 1946-1965 | SKU: 26J-0534

A matched set of four handcrafted Japanese interior panels featuring openwork kumiko lattice above carved lower wood panels.

This set of four vintage Japanese shoin panels presents a refined balance of geometry and carved detail. Each panel is built with a solid outer frame, an upper section of intricate kumiko lattice in a stepped rectilinear pattern, and a lower solid wood panel with a softly carved cloud-like cartouche. The lattice is backed with aged translucent paper, giving the panels a gentle layered texture while still emphasizing the precision of the woodwork. The warm wood tones and variation across the hand-carved lower sections add depth and character consistent with traditional Japanese architectural joinery.

Ideal for decorative reuse, these panels can be displayed as wall art, incorporated into a custom interior installation, or used as accent pieces in a Japandi, wabi-sabi, or traditional-inspired space. Their narrow scale also makes them suitable for lining a hallway wall, framing a doorway project, or serving as distinctive architectural salvage elements in a renovation or design studio setting.

A beautifully detailed set of vintage Japanese shoin panels, offering handcrafted kumiko work and subtle carved ornament for collectors, designers, and lovers of traditional architectural elements.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
