Vintage Japanese Shogi Board Table, Live-Edge Wood Slab with Natural Root Legs, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0505
A sculptural vintage Japanese shogi board table carved from a thick natural wood slab, raised on organic stump-like legs and marked with a hand-ruled playing grid.
This unusual low table combines the function of a traditional shogi board with the expressive character of natural woodcraft. The top is formed from a substantial live-edge slab with an elongated oval outline, and the playing surface is laid out with a rectangular grid appropriate to shogi. The board is supported by multiple irregular natural wood legs, including root-like forms that give the piece a distinctly rustic, handcrafted presence. Warm amber-brown grain, visible knots, and age-related checking all contribute to its one-of-a-kind appearance.
Whether appreciated as a collectible game board or displayed as a conversation piece, this piece brings strong organic texture to an interior. It works beautifully in wabi-sabi, rustic, or Japandi-inspired spaces, and can also serve as a low decorative platform when not in use. The combination of traditional gaming culture and free-form natural materials gives it a highly individual character.
