Vintage Japanese Sewing Box, Early Showa 1927-1945 | SKU: 26J-0781-2
A compact vintage Japanese sewing box in warmly figured wood, with a top pin-cushion compartment and portable tabletop form.
This handcrafted Japanese sewing box has a compact rectangular form finished in richly patterned wood with a warm brown tone. The front is arranged with two small upper compartments fitted with round metal pulls and two wider lower compartments fitted with curved bail handles. A folding metal carry handle is mounted on the top, reinforcing its portable tabletop design. Most notably, the top surface includes a small open compartment sized for a pin cushion or sewing notions, a practical feature closely associated with traditional sewing boxes. The interior surfaces visible in the open views are plain wood, contrasting with the more decorative outer finish.
At just ten inches wide, this vintage Japanese sewing box is easy to place on a desk, shelf, or side table. It can still be used for sewing tools and notions, or repurposed for stationery, craft supplies, or other small personal items. Its figured wood, dark metal hardware, and compact silhouette make it an appealing accent for wabi-sabi, cottage, or collected vintage interiors.
