Vintage Japanese Sewing Box, 1980s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-047)

Showa-era wooden itomono-bako with lift-top compartment and multi-drawer storage

This handsome vintage Japanese sewing box, or itomono-bako, showcases a rich dark-brown wood grain with a lustrous lacquered finish. The clean, rectilinear form is softened by rounded front edges and exposed finger joints at the corners, giving it the quiet presence of a miniature tansu chest for the worktable or dresser.

Beneath the hinged lift-top lid is a thoughtfully divided tray for threads, thimbles, and small notions, while the front offers an array of shallow and deep drawers for scissors, fabric, and everyday accessories. Original metal pulls and smooth-running drawers make this Showa-era piece as practical today as it was in the 1980s, whether used as a sewing organizer, jewelry chest, or compact desk caddy.

A refined Showa sewing chest that brings Japanese craftsmanship and orderly storage to any creative or living space.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
