Vintage Japanese Haribako Sewing Box, Showa Era (SKU 25D-403-1)

Showa-era wooden itomono-bako with multiple drawers and hidden upper compartments.

This compact vintage Japanese sewing box, or haribako, is crafted in richly grained stained wood with a warm, reddish-brown finish. The front is arranged like a miniature tansu, with four small and medium drawers over a full-width lower drawer, each fitted with simple brass pulls that speak to its mid-20th-century practicality.

The hinged top opens to reveal a long covered compartment and a removable divided tray, ideal for organizing threads, needles, and small notions. With its honest Showa-period wear, this sewing chest makes a characterful organizer for a craft room, desk, or entryway while preserving the quiet utility of traditional Japanese daily life.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
