Vintage Japanese Haribako Sewing Box, 1940s (SKU 25D-326)

Showa-era wooden itomono-bako with multiple drawers and lift-top compartment

This charming vintage Japanese sewing box, or itomono-bako, is crafted in warm-toned hardwood with a simple, rectilinear form that reflects early 20th-century taste. The front is organized with an asymmetrical arrangement of drawers, each fitted with understated metal pulls that lend a subtle modern accent to the traditional tansu-inspired design.

The hinged top opens to reveal a spacious interior compartment with removable inner trays, ideal for organizing threads, needles, and small tools—or today’s jewelry and keepsakes. With its honest wear, visible grain, and practical layout, this Showa-era piece brings the quiet utility of Japanese folk craft to a desk, dresser, or sewing corner.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
