Vintage Japanese Sewing Box, 1930s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-026-3)

Warm wood grain and practical komono storage from the Showa era.

This vintage Japanese sewing box shows the elegant utility of mid-century Showa design, with a richly figured wood grain and compact, well-balanced proportions. The faceted front, iron pulls, and inset hardware give it the look of a small tansu while keeping the form refined and easy to place in a modern interior.

Inside, the box offers useful compartmentalized storage for sewing supplies, komono, or desk essentials. The lift-top lid opens to reveal an interior tray and divided sections, while the drawers below provide flexible organization. It is a handsome and functional piece with strong display appeal.

A charming everyday antique with timeless Japanese character.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
