Vintage Japanese Sake Bottle (SKU 25D-119)

Showa-era tokkuri with dramatic drip-glaze over deep brown stoneware

This vintage Japanese sake bottle, or tokkuri, showcases a striking contrast between its rich, chocolate-brown body and a flowing ivory glaze that cascades from the shoulder. The softly ovoid form sits on a small foot, while the narrow neck flares gently at the rim, inviting use in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

The upper section is finished in a warm, crackled cream glaze with subtle iron spotting and areas of exposed clay, adding a wabi-sabi character typical of mid-Showa studio pottery. Bold, hand-applied drip glazing in off-white and pale blue-grey runs down over the dark ground, giving the piece a sense of movement that makes it equally suited for serving warm sake or as a sculptural vase for seasonal branches.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
