Showa-era glazed stoneware vessel with original lidded tomobako storage box
This compact Japanese stoneware vessel presents a richly fired, high-gloss glaze in deep browns and amber tones, the surface alive with subtle speckling and kiln variation. Thrown in a straight cylindrical form with faint turning rings, it is capped by a dark, lacquered-style lid fitted with a simple metal loop, giving the piece a refined, almost tea-ceremony sensibility.
Accompanied by its signed wooden tomobako storage box, this Showa-period piece would have originally served as a small container in a chadō or everyday setting, and now displays beautifully as an understated vase or utensil holder. Its warm, earthy palette and honest potter’s marks make it an ideal accent for wabi-sabi interiors, Japanese antiques collections, or a curated tokonoma display.
A quietly sophisticated Showa-era piece that brings authentic Japanese warmth and texture to any antique or chadō-inspired space.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
