Vintage Japanese Kyodai Mirror, Showa Era (SKU 25D-304)

Showa-era Japanese tansu-style floor mirror with richly figured wood and ample hidden storage

This elegant vintage Japanese floor mirror combines the vertical grace of a traditional kyō (mirror) with the practicality of a compact tansu chest. The tall rectangular mirror is framed in beautifully figured wood, rising from a solid base and anchored by a pierced apron panel featuring stylized floral and landscape motifs, adding a subtle decorative flourish without overwhelming the clean Showa lines.

Below, the cabinet opens to reveal multiple drawers and compartments, ideal for storing kimono accessories, jewelry, or modern everyday items. The dramatic, almost tiger-maple-like grain gives the piece strong visual presence, while metal ring pulls and a central brass clasp complete the authentic mid-20th-century Japanese look. A functional statement piece, it works equally well as a bedroom dressing mirror or an entryway accent with built-in storage.

A refined Showa-era piece that brings both Japanese craftsmanship and practical storage to any interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
