This finely crafted example features a rounded oval clay body finished in a warm sandy texture, hand-painted on one side with the classic "sho-chiku-bai" grouping of pine, plum blossom, and bamboo -- the three auspicious friends of winter -- rendered in rich greens, blues, and ochres. The reverse presents a pair of elegant tsuru (cranes) poised before a bold red rising sun, another deeply auspicious motif symbolizing longevity and good fortune. Each end is capped with a lacquered black wooden fitting trimmed in red, while a generous rust-orange braided silk cord tassel hangs from one end, completing the ceremonial character of the piece. The original wooden storage box, inscribed in brushed characters consistent with "takarazuchi," accompanies the ornament.
