Showa-era wooden and shoji-style electric andon lantern

This vintage Japanese lantern is crafted in the style of a traditional andon, with a dark-stained wooden frame and shoji-inspired panels that diffuse the light with a warm, gentle glow. The gridwork sides evoke classic machiya townhouse architecture, making it an ideal accent for both Japanese interiors and wabi-sabi inspired spaces.

Fitted with an electric bulb socket and inline switch, this Showa-period piece bridges old and new: the atmosphere of paper lanterns with the convenience of modern wiring. The base and housing show honest age and patina consistent with vintage use, adding authentic character without distracting from its refined presence.
