Vintage Japanese Lacquered Tray (SKU 25D-230-2)

Showa-era square serving tray with rich vermilion interior and refined geometric rim.

This vintage Japanese lacquered tray features a deep, glossy kuro-urushi style black exterior that contrasts beautifully with the warm vermilion interior. The inside surface is finished in a speckled nuri that recalls traditional negoro and sabi-inspired aesthetics, giving the piece a quietly luxurious presence on the table.

Around the inner rim runs a delicate band of geometric pattern, evoking classic yosegi-style inlay and adding a subtle decorative accent without overpowering the clean, modern Showa lines. Ideal as an oshiki tray for individual place settings, tea service, or as a display base for ceramics and ikebana, it brings an authentic mid-20th-century Japanese atmosphere to contemporary interiors.

  • Origin: Japan

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
