This is a vintage Japanese Ko dansu or small chest from Taisho period (1910's-1920's). It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Made of Keyaki (Zelkova), Sugi ( Cedar ) Kirinoki (Paulownia)woods. Keyaki wood used in the front is valued in Japan and used often for furniture because of its beautiful color and grain.
This is practical to use for any storage and room enhancing purposes.
