This vintage Japanese 2-section Kimono Tansu, known as a Kamo Tansu, dates back to the 1970s and is crafted primarily from lightweight yet resilient Paulownia (kiri) wood. Originally designed to store kimono in removable trays, this piece has been thoughtfully modified for modern use — the trays have been removed and replaced with a bar for hanging clothing.
The upper section opens with traditional hinged doors to reveal ample vertical space for garments, while a deep drawer at the base offers additional storage. Elegant metal fittings with detailed craftsmanship add a refined accent to the understated wood grain.
A beautiful blend of tradition and adaptability, this Kamo Tansu brings timeless Japanese design to the contemporary home.
