A compact and beautifully arranged Japanese portable warming chest set, complete with a wood-grain jubako food box, two small lidded boxes, a red-lacquered compartment tray, and a fitted metal warming reservoir.

This early Showa portable chest is a thoughtfully constructed multi-part serving set designed around transport, presentation, and gentle warming. The tall rectangular case has a hinged front door, a metal carry handle on top, and protective metal corner fittings. Inside, the upper section is divided into two small compartments for the included lidded boxes, while the main interior accommodates the larger jubako box and tray components. At the bottom sits a removable metal reservoir with an arched handle and circular opening; the shelf above is cut with a round aperture, allowing warmth to rise into the cabinet interior. The included food-service pieces feature an attractive wood-grain exterior with vivid red lacquered interiors, creating a striking contrast typical of practical yet refined Japanese tableware.
