Vintage Japanese Iron Floor Shokudai Candlestick Stand, Early Showa 1927-1945 | SKU: 26J-0229

A striking tall iron floor candlestick stand with scrolled fittings, a sliding hook collar, and a cast iron sunburst base -- raw Early Showa ironwork at its most expressive.

A shokudai is a traditional Japanese candlestick stand used to hold a single candle for interior lighting, providing soft, directed light in domestic rooms or ceremonial spaces. This floor-standing example rises on a slender wrought iron shaft -- partly twisted along its lower section -- topped with a flat circular drip pan and a central pricket spike for securing the candle. A scrolled iron ring grip rises above the pan, both decorative and functional, allowing the stand to be repositioned without touching hot wax. Scrolled iron collars near the top of the shaft add visual rhythm and reflect the handcrafted Japanese metalwork traditions of the early Showa period. A secondary sliding hook collar midshaft -- forged with its own scrolled detailing -- could be repositioned along the shaft to suspend a small lantern or accessory, adding versatility to the piece. The heavy cast iron base features a radiating slot pattern and sits on three flat outward-splayed feet for stability, its industrial weight grounding the delicate ironwork above it. Heavy surface rust throughout speaks to authentic age and genuine use.

In a modern home, this vintage Japanese iron floor stand makes a dramatic living room accent or entryway statement piece -- its raw, oxidized surface and sinuous scrollwork perfectly suited to a wabi-sabi aesthetic or an industrial-meets-Japandi interior. Stand it beside a reading chair with a pillar candle for atmospheric bedroom decor, or display it as sculptural art in a minimalist entryway or hallway. The sliding hook collar invites creative reuse: hang a small dried botanicals bundle, a lantern, or an artisan ornament to personalize it further. A one-of-a-kind gift for collectors of Japanese vintage ironwork or admirers of handcrafted vintage lighting.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
