Vintage Japanese Incense Burner (SKU 25D-476-3)

Hand-thrown dome-shaped koro in warm, unglazed Shigaraki-style clay

This compact vintage Japanese incense burner is formed from coarse, iron-rich clay fired to earthy tones of russet and charcoal brown. The domed lid is carved with vertical fluting and pierced with small ventilation holes, allowing fragrant smoke to drift gently while protecting the ember within. Resting on three small feet, the rounded base gives the piece a subtle sense of lift and presence on a tokonoma shelf, tea tray, or altar.

Inside, a central spike securely holds stick incense, and the interior shows a beautiful patina from past use, enhancing its Showa-era character. The simple, almost rustic wabi-sabi finish recalls traditional Shigaraki or Bizen ware, making this koro a versatile accent for Japanese tea ceremony, meditation spaces, or as a small collectible object of folk craft.
