Vintage Japanese Satsuma-style Koro Incense Burner, Showa Era (SKU 25D-144)
Delicate Satsuma-style koro with intricate openwork lid from Kagoshima, Japan
This vintage Japanese incense burner (koro) is finished in a warm ivory glaze and finely carved with repeating sayagata key-fret patterns around the body and rim. The rounded form sits on discreet feet, while the gently domed shoulders echo the lobed silhouette often seen in mid-Showa decorative wares.
The removable pierced inner dome allows ash and incense to rest securely while fragrance diffuses through the honeycomb lattice. Supplied with its original wooden storage box bearing a Kagoshima (薩摩) pottery label, this piece works beautifully as a functional koro or as a sculptural accent in a tokonoma, tea room, or modern interior.
