Vintage Japanese Incense Burner, Showa Era (SKU 25D-476-2)

Showa-era wheel-thrown koro with original signed kiri-bako

This vintage Japanese incense burner (kōro) is a compact, wheel-thrown stoneware piece with a warm reddish clay body and domed perforated lid. The exterior is finished in a flowing, high-gloss glaze of moss green and cream that sweeps around the form, creating a dynamic contrast with the unglazed, textured clay visible at the rim and foot.

Designed for refined daily use in the tea room or study, the koro separates into two parts: a deep base to hold ash and incense, and a lid pierced with carefully arranged ventilation holes to let the fragrance drift gently into the room. It comes housed in its original signed kiri-bako (paulownia wood box) with accompanying Japanese information sheet, underscoring its Showa-era studio provenance.

  • Origin: Japan

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
