Vintage Japanese Ceramic Hibachi with Tanuki Relief, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0755
A substantial vintage Japanese ceramic hibachi with a wide circular opening, rich brown glaze, and expressive tanuki figures in relief around the body.
This vintage Japanese hibachi is formed in a classic deep, tapering shape with a broad collar and open mouth above. The body is finished in warm brown tones with darker glossy areas and blue-green accents around the rim, creating a handsome, earthy surface. Around the upper body are molded tanuki figures with rounded forms, protruding paws, and lively faces that give the piece a playful folk-art presence. The interior is open and unglazed, consistent with a traditional hibachi form, while the base sits on a recessed foot.
At this generous scale, the hibachi works beautifully today as a sculptural decorative accent, a traditional interior vessel, or a distinctive floor piece in a Japandi, wabi-sabi, or eclectic setting. Its strong silhouette and figural detail give it character from every angle, whether placed on its own or incorporated into a layered display of vintage Japanese ceramics. A memorable piece for collectors of Japanese folk pottery and traditional household wares.
