Vintage Japanese Hanging Ikebana Vase (SKU 25D-181-4)

Rustic Heisei-era kakikomi-style hanging vase with original signed kiri-wood tomobako

This slender vintage Japanese vase is formed from coarse, dark stoneware with an intentionally irregular, branch-like silhouette that evokes the wabi-sabi aesthetics of the tea ceremony. The roughly textured surface and natural ash-brown tone give it the quiet presence of a weathered bamboo stalk, making it ideal for a single seasonal blossom or a sprig of wild grass in the spirit of chabana.

Designed as a wall-hung or pillar-hung piece, the vase features a small metal suspension ring attached near the mouth, allowing it to be displayed as a vertical kakehanaire. It is accompanied by its fitted, calligraphed wooden storage box (tomobako), adding provenance and protection for collectors of Heisei-era Japanese ceramics and tea ceremony utensils.

A characterful accent for a tokonoma or modern interior, bringing the quiet poetry of Heisei Japan into contemporary space.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
