Vintage Japanese Getabako Shoe Cabinet, Mid-Showa 1946-1965 | SKU: 26J-G0110

A compact Japanese wooden getabako with sliding doors, bamboo-form pulls, and a narrow side compartment -- practical entryway storage with warm vintage character.

A getabako is a traditional Japanese shoe cabinet, typically placed near an entryway to keep footwear neatly stored and organized. This example, dating to the Mid-Showa period (1946-1965), is made of wood with a warm brown tone and a simple, useful layout. The front is arranged with two upper sliding panels and two larger lower sliding panels, each fitted with vertical bamboo-form pull details. At the right side is a tall narrow hinged compartment with dark metal hardware, adding a separate enclosed space alongside the main cabinet sections. Inside, the cabinet offers open shelving suited to shoes and other small household items.

Today this vintage Japanese shoe cabinet works beautifully in an entryway, mudroom, or hallway. It can be used for footwear, slippers, bags, and daily accessories while keeping the top surface available for a tray, flowers, or seasonal display. Its modest footprint and understated design also make it useful in a studio, office, or living space where compact concealed storage is needed.

A functional and characterful vintage getabako that brings practical storage and a quiet Japanese aesthetic to the home.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
