Vintage Japanese Pendulum Wall Clock, Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0251-1
A Tokyo-made mechanical wall clock with an octagonal dark wood case, hand-painted dial, and brass pendulum bob -- a striking centerpiece of mid-20th century Japanese clockmaking.
A Japanese pendulum wall clock of this style, known in collectors' circles as a "daruma" or regulator-style wall clock, was a staple of well-appointed homes and offices throughout the Showa era. This example features a boldly proportioned octagonal case in deep dark-stained wood with visible linear grain, adorned at each corner and along the lower drop trunk with carved rosette boss accents -- a decorative detail characteristic of quality Japanese clock cases from this period. The round white dial is marked "MADE IN TOKYO" with a maker's diamond-shaped logo, printed with bold Arabic numerals and a dot-interval minute track inside a brass inner ring bezel. Two winding arbors confirm this is a key-wound mechanical movement. The lower pendulum trunk displays the brass-ringed pendulum bob through an open circular aperture, giving the clock its satisfying visual rhythm. The aged crazing and warm yellowing of the dial face speak to genuine provenance -- a handcrafted Japanese vintage timepiece with authentic character.
Today, this vintage Japanese wall clock makes an exceptional focal point in a variety of modern interiors. Hung in a living room or entryway, its octagonal silhouette and richly dark case pair beautifully with Japandi style decor or wabi-sabi aesthetic settings that prize honest materials and quiet craftsmanship. In a home office, it serves as both a functional conversation piece and a reminder of a slower, more deliberate era of timekeeping. Even displayed as purely decorative wall art -- perhaps in a reading nook, dining room, or study -- its warm tones and ornamental rosette carvings bring a layer of history and depth that no reproduction can replicate. This is a truly unique gift for collectors of vintage Japanese craft or Japanophiles who appreciate one-of-a-kind finds.
