Vintage Japanese Celadon Vase, Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0562-10

A luminous pale green celadon vessel adorned with inlaid crane, willow, and lotus motifs in the classic East Asian revival style.

A celadon vase is a hand-crafted ceramic vessel finished in the prized blue-green glaze tradition that flourished across East Asia for centuries. This generously proportioned piece features a rounded, full-bodied silhouette with a narrow rolled mouth -- a form directly descended from the celebrated meiping and storage jar shapes of classical ceramic traditions. The pale jade-green glaze is applied over a stoneware body and displays a fine, natural crackle across its surface, lending it the quietly aged character collectors prize in vintage Japanese ceramic art and East Asian decorative pottery. The shoulder is encircled by a carved band of overlapping lotus petals punctuated with impressed dot details, while a beaded border separates this band from the main body. A matching upward-facing lotus petal band frames the foot. Between these two registers, inlaid white slip decoration depicts soaring cranes amid drifting clouds and pine sprigs -- auspicious motifs symbolizing longevity and good fortune -- surrounding a central carved medallion in which weeping willow trees rise above a rocky shoreline. The unglazed terracotta foot rim and impressed marks on the glazed base are consistent with mid-to-late Showa era studio production. The overall decorative vocabulary closely follows the Goryeo celadon revival style, which was widely admired and collected in Japan during this period.

This striking vintage celadon vase brings an instant sense of tranquility and collected refinement to a modern interior. Display it as a standalone living room accent on a console, sideboard, or mantle, where its serene sage-green tone will complement both Japandi style and wabi-sabi aesthetic schemes beautifully. Fill it with a single stem arrangement -- an ikebana composition of branches and blooms suits its proportions perfectly -- or use it dry as a sculptural decorative accent in a bedroom or home office. Its generous size and visual weight also make it an exceptional housewarming gift or a meaningful gift for collectors of East Asian ceramics and decorative pottery.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
