This vintage Japanese bamboo basket features a beautifully swollen body woven in a tight herringbone pattern, finished in a deep reddish-brown stain that reflects decades of careful use. A sturdy, twisted bamboo handle rises from the rim, giving the piece both sculptural presence and everyday practicality typical of Showa-period craft.

Inside, the basket includes a removable cylindrical bamboo insert, indicating use as a hanakago (flower basket). At the base, a fitted metal saucer is set discreetly into the bottom, designed to catch water and protect the bamboo when used for floral arrangements. Suitable for display in a tokonoma alcove or as a rustic centerpiece, this handwoven basket embodies the warmth, functionality, and wabi-sabi character of traditional Japanese bamboo artistry.
