Vintage Japanese Basket, Bamboo, Showa Era (SKU 25D-203-1)

Rustic handwoven take-kago with sculptural openwork handle

This vintage Japanese bamboo basket showcases an expressive, open weave that celebrates the natural character of smoked bamboo. The gently flared body is constructed from broad, twisted strips set on a sturdy circular base, giving the piece both visual lightness and everyday strength. Its deep, warm patina suggests years of careful use and handling.

The arched handle is bound and braided by hand, with playful looped accents around the rim that recall mid‑20th century mingei (folk craft) aesthetics. Ideal as a rustic ikebana container with an inner liner, or as a decorative storage basket for textiles and small objects, it brings an authentic Showa-era farmhouse mood to any interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
