Vintage Japanese Panels Screen Divider (SKU 25D-100)

Showa-era bamboo and wood folding byōbu-style room divider with latticework detail

This vintage four-panel Japanese screen divider combines the lightness of sudare-style bamboo slats with the warmth of stained hardwood framing. Finely aligned vertical reeds are rhythmically bound with pale horizontal cords, creating a soft, semi-opaque partition that filters light while preserving a sense of openness—ideal for evoking the atmosphere of a traditional washitsu in modern interiors.

Along the mid and lower sections, delicate openwork lattice reminiscent of kumiko carpentry adds refinement, while the base panels feature carved landscape silhouettes that introduce a subtle decorative focal point. Sturdy metal hinges join the four folding leaves, allowing the screen to stand freely in a gentle zigzag and to be easily reconfigured as a room divider, privacy screen, or backdrop in either home or commercial spaces.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
