Vintage Japanese Blue-and-White Porcelain Kyusu and Yunomi Tea Set with Ami Lattice Pattern and Signed Tomobako, Heisei period (1990-2018) | SKU: 26M-073

A quietly elegant blue-and-white porcelain kyusu set dressed in a delicate ami (net) lattice pattern -- complete with its original signed wooden box.

A kyusu is the classic Japanese side-handle teapot used daily for brewing sencha and other green teas. This vintage Japanese tea set pairs two matching kyusu teapots with a set of yunomi (handleless tea cups), all thrown in bright white porcelain and decorated with a hand-painted ami-gusari (chain-net) motif in soft cobalt blue. The repeating lattice shifts subtly between the rounded body of the teapots and the cylindrical cups -- tighter and more radial on the lids, looser and more gestural on the sides -- giving the set a quiet, hand-crafted energy consistent with studio-ceramic work of the Heisei period. Each piece carries a maker's mark on the unglazed foot ring, and the set is housed in its original signed wood presentation box inscribed with the artist's name in brushed calligraphy, indicating this was produced as a gift-grade or exhibition piece.

In a modern home this set is as much a display object as a functional one. Arrange it on an open kitchen shelf or sideboard as a refined living room accent in a Japandi style or wabi-sabi aesthetic interior -- the cool blue-on-white palette pairs effortlessly with linen, raw wood, and stone surfaces. Use it daily for a mindful morning tea ritual, or set it out as a tabletop centerpiece for a Japanese-inspired dinner. It also makes a thoughtful and distinctive housewarming gift or gift for collectors of handcrafted Japanese ceramics.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
