Japanese Tansu Style Tool Box
Custom-order reference example; the pictured item is shown for inspiration and is not available for purchase.
This Japanese tansu style tool box is a compact kiri wood storage piece with a clear finish and documented measurements of 19" x 9" x 9". In the tansu tradition, the exterior uses bold corner hardware and side handles to give the box a strong chest-like presence while keeping the overall form simple and practical.
The photographed example shows a lidded box with an organized interior suited to tool storage. Inside, there is a deeper main compartment and a fitted upper tray with long divided sections for keeping smaller tools or accessories separated. The lid itself includes a slatted inset panel, adding visual rhythm while continuing the clean tansu-inspired look.
Kiri wood, also known as paulownia, is valued for its light weight, making it a fitting material for a box designed to hold and organize hand tools. The clear finish keeps the pale natural character of the wood visible.

Design Notes
Tansu is a Japanese term commonly used for cabinetry and storage furniture. Here, the tansu style is expressed through the hardware-like corner accents, side pulls, and straightforward utility-focused construction. The result is a box that balances orderly interior storage with a distinctly Japanese exterior silhouette.
