This custom-order reference piece is a Japanese tansu style glass display chest. The pictured example is shown for inspiration and documentation only and is not available for purchase.
Overview
Designed in the spirit of Japanese tansu furniture, this display chest combines a clean rectilinear case with broad glass-fronted doors for showcasing books, ceramics, tableware, or other decorative objects. The manually documented specifications identify the piece as ash wood with a teak finish, sized for substantial wall placement while remaining relatively shallow in depth.
Design and Function
Tansu is a Japanese term commonly used for cabinetry and chests. In this custom example, the tansu-inspired look is expressed through straightforward proportions, a warm wood frame, and practical sliding glass-front access suited to display use. The cabinet form and transparent front help keep stored items visible while maintaining a more orderly presentation than open shelving.
The photographed example shows a low, wide case with two large glazed front panels and a side pull detail, reinforcing its use as a display chest rather than a fully open bookcase. Interior shelving provides organized storage across the width of the cabinet.
