Vintage Japanese Bronze Flower Vase (Kabin), Globular Form with Raised Peony Relief, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26M-660

A signed master-craft bronze kabin with deep green patina and raised gold-and-silver peony relief -- presented with its original wooden tomobako.

A kabin is a traditional Japanese flower vase used in ikebana floral arrangement and as a standalone decorative object in the tokonoma alcove. This exceptional example is a cast bronze vessel of globular form -- a shape known as tsubo -- finished in a rich mottled green patina that shifts between deep forest and emerald tones across its rounded body. The exterior is adorned with a masterfully executed raised relief composition featuring a large botan (peony) blossom rendered in gleaming gold and silver tones, surrounded by chrysanthemum sprays, plum blossoms, and finely veined foliage worked in contrasting dark and gilt metal. The carving quality is extraordinarily fine: individual petals, stamens, and leaf veins are articulated with the precision of a skilled kinko (metal craftsman), placing this piece firmly in the tradition of Japanese decorative bronze art. A maker's seal is visible on the shoulder, and the base carries an engraved award inscription -- consistent with a piece entered in a craft exhibition -- while the accompanying wooden tomobako (signed storage box) confirms this as a named artist's work.

This vintage Japanese bronze vase makes a commanding living room accent or entryway focal point, equally at home on a sideboard, pedestal, or display shelf in a Japandi-style or mid-century modern interior. Its deep green and gold palette pairs beautifully with natural wood furniture and neutral textiles. Display it alone as sculptural art or with a single stem arrangement for a wabi-sabi aesthetic. It also makes a truly unique housewarming gift or gift for collectors of Japanese metalwork and decorative arts -- a gallery-quality piece that brings refined craftsmanship and cultural depth to any modern home.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
