Japanese Celadon Flower Vase | Ikebana Display Vase & Living Room Accent, 1966-1989 (Late Showa), SKU 26M-127-1
A richly carved celadon pottery vase in the Koryo style, presented in its original signed wooden storage box.
A celadon flower vase is a glazed stoneware vessel celebrated for its soft jade-green glaze and refined carved decoration -- a tradition rooted in the celebrated Koryo celadon ware of medieval Korea and long admired and reproduced by Japanese ceramic artists. This handcrafted Japanese pottery vase features a full, globe-shaped body tapering to a graceful flared neck, covered entirely in a soft sage-green celadon glaze with fine crazing visible at the mouth. The surface is lavishly decorated in carved and incised relief: a dense overall pattern of overlapping petals or scales covers the body, framing a central rounded medallion filled with delicately rendered chrysanthemum sprays on trailing stems. Bands of carved lotus petals encircle both the shoulder and the base, while the interior of the wide mouth and the unglazed foot ring reveal the warm stoneware clay beneath. An artist's mark is brushed in ink on the foot, and the piece retains its original signed kiri (paulownia) wood tomobako storage box -- a mark of collector-level provenance in Japanese antique ceramics.
This vintage Japanese celadon vase is a natural focal point for ikebana flower arranging, its wide flared opening accommodating both minimal single-stem arrangements and fuller seasonal bouquets. The cool, muted green glaze works effortlessly with Japandi style interiors, wabi-sabi aesthetic shelving, and minimalist decor schemes -- equally at home on a living room accent shelf, a dining table centrepiece, or a bedroom decor display alongside natural textiles and wood. Collectors will appreciate the tomobako box and the artist's mark, which add provenance and display value. A thoughtful housewarming gift or a distinguished addition to any collection of Japanese antique pottery.
