Antique Japanese Haribako Sewing Box, Wood, Taisho Era (SKU 25S-417)

Taisho-era haribako with hinged top compartment and multiple drawers for sewing tools and small treasures.

This antique Japanese haribako (sewing chest) is crafted in warm-toned hardwood with a rich, time-softened finish. The front is arranged with three tiers of drawers—two full-width and one divided—each fitted with simple brass warabite-style pulls, ideal for organizing threads, needles, thimbles and other notions. Side carry-holes make the box easy to move from storage shelf to work table, just as it would have been used in a traditional Japanese home.

The upper section features a hinged lid that opens to a generous compartment, once used to hold fabric and tools and now perfectly suited for jewelry, stationery, or tea accessories. Subtle wear, fine grain patterns and original metal fittings give this sewing box the quiet wabi-sabi character prized in Japanese antiques, while its compact tansu-like form makes it an elegant accent for modern interiors.
