Antique Japanese Haribako Sewing Box, Wood (SKU 25S-414)

Finely grained Japanese haribako sewing chest with multiple drawers and lift-top storage.

This antique Japanese haribako (sewing box) is crafted from beautifully figured hardwood, its surface alive with striking grain that recalls the finest tansu cabinetry. The compact chest features a harmonious façade of graduated drawers and a small side drawer, each fitted with simple iron pulls that have mellowed with age. A lift-top section reveals additional divided storage, ideal for keeping smaller notions and tools neatly ordered.

Originally used to store needles, threads, and thimbles for sashiko and everyday mending, this wooden sewing box now makes a versatile organizer for a desk, dresser, or entryway. The warm honey-brown patina, visible joinery, and gently worn interiors speak to decades of careful use, giving the piece an understated Taisho-era charm that pairs effortlessly with both traditional and modern interiors.
