This antique Japanese isho tansu is a two-section stacking chest dating to the Meiji period. The front is arranged with a pair of upper doors fitted with a large circular iron lockplate, opening to reveal a bank of small drawers within. Below are full-width drawers with iron pulls, offering the straightforward and functional storage associated with traditional domestic tansu. The case presents in a very dark, richly aged finish with visible wear along the edges and surface, adding strong character and depth.

The combination of upper cabinet storage and lower drawers makes this piece especially versatile for modern interiors.
