Antique Japanese Iko Kimono Rack, Meiji 1868-1912 | SKU: 26J-0761

A compact lacquered iko with fine gold scroll and fan motifs, designed for displaying or airing kimono and textiles.

This antique Japanese iko is a small freestanding kimono rack with a restrained, elegant silhouette. The form consists of two upright supports, a straight upper hanging bar, a middle stretcher, and a lower connecting rail, all raised on shaped feet for stability. The surface is finished in black lacquer and decorated throughout with gold swirling karakusa-style scrollwork and fan motifs, giving the piece a refined decorative presence even when not in use. A fitted wooden storage box is also included, and the rack is shown disassembled to store flat inside.

Its compact size makes it especially versatile in a modern interior. Use it to display a folded kimono, haori, obi, scarf, or other favorite textile, or place it on a dresser, chest, or low surface as a sculptural decorative accent. The combination of practical form and detailed lacquer ornament allows it to function equally well as a collector's object and as a display stand for treasured fabrics.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
