Hand-carved from a single block of natural stone, this antique Japanese Buddha is depicted in a relaxed seated pose, one hand gently raised to the cheek in quiet contemplation. The figure is carved in low relief against a roughly hewn, pointed backing stone, giving the piece a powerful sense of age and presence while preserving a soft, almost naïve facial expression.

The surface shows natural weathering and patina from long-term outdoor exposure, enhancing the rustic character typical of traditional ishi-dōrō and stone temple figures. Subtle robe lines, the simple headdress, and the solid rectangular base make this a compelling focal point for a meditative corner, shrine, or Japanese-style garden.
