Carved cranes among pines—an everlasting flight of fortune
These four ethereal shoin-ranma transom panels celebrate longevity and harmony: red-crowned cranes glide through windswept pines above stylized bamboo groves. Hand-carved from fragrant hinoki and warm cedar, each panel once filtered mountain light into a scholar’s study, casting branch-shaped shadows across inkstone and scroll.
Mounted together as a wall sculpture, headboard, or room divider, the set becomes a living scroll painting—its negative spaces as eloquent as its carved relief. The interlocking joinery remains tight; the natural patina glows like early-morning sun on temple eaves.
